In California, electronic toll collection on the Carquinez Bridge saved 25,193 hours per year by improving traffic movement through the toll facility and reducing the time required to process transactions.
As part of the demonstration project, benefits of installing the ETC system were estimated. Estimates were provided for each fiscal year between 1995/96 and 2005/06.
Between 2000 and 2001 the time saved for toll transactions was estimated at 2,153 (no units given in report: assumed hours per year based on other data highlighted) for ETC versus tickets, and estimated at 3,533 for ETC versus cash transactions. Also, the time savings for movement through the toll facility was estimated at 19,500. The results indicated a total time savings of 25,193.
