Summary Information

Routes (Rail, Omnibus, Underground Travel Enquiry System) is a computerized route planning system used by London Transport (LT). Operators respond to customers' queries on transit information. 80 percent of callers made the journey they asked for information about. Of these, 38 percent changed their route based on information received from the operator at LT and 13 percent made a trip that they would not otherwise have made by public transport. This 13 percent generated an estimated 1.3 million pounds sterling of additional revenue for bus companies, 1.2 million for the underground, and 1 million for the railways. Societal benefits could be as high as 11 million.
